week 9

New Fashion Shows

This Fashion shows was the coolest, most unique thing I have ever seen be done in the fashion industry as far as shows go. He really took models that were plus sized or average sized and let each of them have a personality on the runway. He didn't want the clothes to be the star of the show he wanted the models to show through, individually. They did a two step dance routine and they were all insync. I thought it was very cool and new.

Week 8

Lookbooks :)

I came across Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 2014 lookbook
It is really cool to get to see what the designer is thinking ahead and seeing how they are picking colors and pairing things together for 2014. Looksbooks would really come in handy to really big fashionistas to see what the next new fresh looks are! You can compare whats different from their Fall 2013 looks to their Spring 2014 looks. For Marc Jacobs lookbook It looks like he he had a lot of boxy boyish looks with little touches of femininity
I loved this dress top the most from his lookbook spring/summer 2014

Week 7

Trunk Shows

Hey guys! So I did a little research on trunk shows and what they were exactly. I came across some pretty cool ones, where you had to make an appointment to go and view their Spring 2014 Collection. I came across a lot of bridal ones and really like. The one that caught my eye was Carolina Herrera trunk show at Carine's Bridal Atelier that was on October 3rd and 4th. They were showcasing her Spring 2014 Collection and also offering 12% off on Thursday and Friday and 10% off on Saturday. Which is pretty amazing on a new collection. It is by appointment only and I think what a great opportunity if this is the designer you love and really want the NEW, CRISP looks.

Some details
I didn't fully understand just what exactly a trunk show was, but after the research I did I get they are just show casing their collection without all the models and runway shows. :)

Week 6

Fashion Show

I watched Venexiana's runway show Spring 2014, and I absolutely love her gowns. They are all so beautiful and each so individual. She doesn't really stick to a color scheme but definitely had a lot of purples and blues. I think her dresses are so sexy flashy. I see these all as red carpet dresses. Her runway show was very basic with just a white walkway and white walls, with more of a rock music feel. I think the classic white in the background is perfect to show off the sparkle and bold colors of her gowns.

Everyone in her show had a a double french braid that twisted into bun at the bottom. Very fast glamourous updo.

Week 5

Interesting Colors on display in Fall

These window displays have interesting colors, especially the Express display they are matching green with blues, reds and purples. I feel like purple is really big for Fall, I am seeing a lot on the streets and a lot on windows. Emerald green is also a big color I see. Even though black and white is on trend I think that pop of color is a must have with the black and white look.

Week 4

Journalist Jargon

Tomas Maier made two basic points at  Bottega Veneta :

Tomas Maier made two basic points at Bottega Veneta on Saturday morning. The first was his anti-decorative use of pleated ruffles on dresses and skirts. That sounds like a contradiction, but the flat, almost offhand treatment of the monochromatic frills seemed to be used for texture and unexpected volume on his classically shaped cotton dresses. The ruffles appeared a lot, but they were not sweet.
His second idea, it seemed, was to drain the color from Bottega Veneta and replace it with mood-dampening shades of gray, navy, espresso, black, and then do the same thing with lighter neutrals, like sandy beige. There was a bit of red and deep purple in the latter part of the show, for dresses embroidered with hairy threads of fringe, as if your cat had decided to sharpen its claws on your favorite sweater. The shoes were a refined style of sling-backs, low and high, with a woven toe.

You can say that the ruffled trims might have worked better in small doses, but women looking at these clothes next spring probably won’t think that way. They will either love ruffles or hate them. And Mr. Maier gave them relatively few choices.

   Silhouette - dresses, skirts,
Details – anti decorative, pleated ruffles, volume, frills, not sweet, embroidered, hairy threads of fringe,
Color – monochromatic, shades of gray, navy, espresso, black, lighter neutrals, sandy beige, red, deep purple
  Fabric - cotton
Creative Jargon – offhand treatment of the monochromatic, not sweet, mood-dampening, your cat had decided to sharpen its claws on your favorite sweater

I never paid much attention to reading what critics had to say, I always just scanned through the pictures. After, reading through a few of them it really does give you such a description to picture what they used what they think and what vivid detail they put in their writing on a piece. It lets you know what they used and what they call things in the fashion world. It really expands your vocabulary on fashion journalism jargon.
